Rebirth
by Jan Fullerton
I took this shot of fireweed around a charred log because I like the contrast of dark and bright and the contrast of dead old forest and new growth. This was taken 4-5 years after a forest fire swept the area.
I applied a slight vignette because I thought it balanced the dark log and reduced the distraction of some bright corners. I'm not sure whether a different crop would be more effective or what else might improve the photo. I would appreciate any comments/suggestions.
The photo was taken with a Canon Rebel XTi at 1/400s, f/14.0, ISO 800, focal length 55 mm.

4 commentsI like the comp and the play between the burnt wood and colorful growth works well. I also think your subtle vignette was a good idea.
I don't know if it would have been possible, but if you had been able to find a comp that would have eliminated the gray rock and misc. items in the background, it might have worked better. They're a little distracting, but not terribly so. I like the image as is, though.
