Mountain Chickadee

Here is a Mountain Chickadee on a set up perch. I do not have any more room to the right, but do have a bit more on top and bottom. As it is, this is a little tighter than I'd prefer, but seems to be the best solution for what I've got. I reduced the brightness on the brightest part of the perch. A little more DOF would have been nice. I need to start shooting more shots at f/10 or f/11.

Brian, I like this a lot. I think the comp is fine for this bird. The bird's head, body, and near foot are nice and sharp. Those are the important parts to me. I see just the slightest hint of color banding in the larger image in the gradation from ULHC down towards the bird's back. Very nice as posted.

Very nice work on the exposure Brian, the blacks & whites of the head, neck and body have lots of nice detail. I like the comp you used, the nice head tilt, eye contact and I find the worm ridden texture of the branch very interesting. Appealing image as posted.

Your comp works just fine for me Brian and I don't find the bird too tight. Sharpness looks good on most of the bird and the detail there is excellent. I like the contemplative pose.

Nice shote of the chickadee. Looks nice and sharp. I find the perch overpowering in the image for such a small bird.

I'm fine with the comp, Brian. Also, you took advantage of what DOF you had very well. I also like the interesting perch. Interesting blend of green and brown in the background too. :toast:

Your mention of Dof for the tail is the only thing I see wrong with an otherwise wonderful photo. Great detail and bg. Sharon

Brian, I think the comp is just fine.
Excellent detail, perch and pose.
You're right that a bit more DOF would have brought the tail into focus as well.
But just FINE as is!

Wonderful detail. I wonder what it would be like with a slightly finer perch in your set up ?

cheers

Terrific! That perch is great, love the details in it, as well as the pose and details in the bird. :toast:

If I may boldly suggest to change that perch! It looks terrible with that broken part. The bird looks fabulous, but the perch spoils it mate. If this were natural then I couldn't see an issue, but setting up I recommend being a little more careful with the selection of perches.

well done on the birdie!
