NWT sunset

I just returned from an 8000km round trip to Inuvik and even flew into Tuktoyaktuk just to say I've been to the Arctic Ocean. Anyway here's a recent sunset over the Northwest Territories near Fort MacPherson off the Dempster highway. Sunsets up there were still around 10pm.
The JPEG banding in the smaller version is pretty bad, so please view the larger version. This is a 6 shot pano stitched with Autopano Pro 2.
I'm undecided about keeping the lower portion of the image due to the black patch, but I like the foreground grasses. Any C&C's are appreciated.

I love what the shape of the water body has done to the 'horizon' in this image and the detail in the floating grasses is fantastic. Nice work,

I would have loved to be there. It's gorgeous, and I'd keep it. I think the bigger it gets, the less of an issue the darker bottom area will be. My only real wish is about the imbalance of interesting clouds in the sky. I wish they were spread more accross the whole sky.

Very serene and lovely landscape, the pads in the foreground really add to this. I wish there that the highlight control were better in the sky, I understand that conventional grad use would have been difficult to manage in a panorama but a soft grad on its side would have helped tame the brightness and be relatively easy to blend in.

Timothy,

This is quite a nice sunset and reflection images. And even though the various elements are smaller and kinda spread out, this works for me. I'm not what the "black patch" is unless you're just concerned about the general darkness at the bottom - I wouldn't call it a patch. I think you could perhaps crop up from the bottom, leaving enough room to give the bottom lily pad some space. I also see a couple of nice panoramic crops - you have several options.

My only nit and this could be an optical illusion and a combination of some barrel distortion? but I get the sense of a slight bow and cw tilt. I think Andrew's comment about the horizon is because of the wavy look from the varying height of the trees and shoreline - which I agree looks pretty cool for the horizon, but still seems tilted slight to me.

Yes there still could be some tilt in there. My first pano stitch was alot worse with the tilt; one of the problems of doing panos at only 16mm.

I like the colors but could see going more pano with a crop off the bottom.

The larger version really makes the difference, a wonderful shot. I would not crop at all, the delicate grasses in the foreground contribute to the unique serenity.
