I awoke to sunlight bazing into my tent, jumped up and grabbed my camera, headed to the shore to see the mist rising on the water and light hitting this little tree.any comments welcome.

You got lucky, not sleeping in too late!!!! Really nice moody scene here.

This is a really interesting photograph Dean! The conditions you have captured create a magic mood! Initially I thought that this was a meadow from which the mist is rising. Only on the far right is the hint that this is water. Anyway, a really good capture in my opinion.

There's something quite unique about this capture. So very dream-like except for the reality of that lone tree. Intriguing and wonderful.

Dean,

What a great sight to wake up to and behold. The mist rising off the water creates almost a mysterious feel and of course the first light really makes this jump out at you.

Now I know this will go against your own reaction to the scene because it was you who was there and captured this, but as a viewer who's not connected to this at all, I'm wondering if you flipped this horizontally? ie. putting the tree on the right. That way the rays of light lead to the tree rather than the rays leading the eye out of the frame. I'm not sure how many buy in to that, but I think it makes sense and of course it's a result of western culture where we learn to read and write from left to right, and I think that goes on to influence our brains in how we process looking at images too. Anyway, sorry to get off topic on you. I really like the image.

Neat light and atmosphere. My only thought would be to may try and dodge a little more detail out of the dark parts of the tree.

A beauty Dean. I've awakened to this sight many times while canoeing, and it never fails to fill me with awe each time I witness it. Your image brings the same feeling of awe and appreciation. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for everyones comments.
Lon- I hear what you're saying. I've never tried to flip an image so I'm not sure how to proceed.Besides,I think if I flipped it, it would be "last light"?
Tony- I actually went the other way, burning the details in the BG to try and isolate the tree and simplify the comp. Also the shore wasn't as attractive as I would've liked it to be.

Cheers,Dean
