Very neat portrait, Eric. It does look as if the white patches on the cheek are blown a bit. You might be able to bring them down in RAW. I like the bg and the details in the plumage. The eye really pops. :toast:

They must be quite habituated you your presence, you were able to get in so close! Neat portrait. The dark area in the background above the head is mildly distracting from the beautiful red head and eye.

The dark drop from the top is a bit distracting to me. Otherwise a very, very fine and detailed image. Well done.

I'm very jealous that you can get this close Eric - fun to see such detail. I especially like seeing the beak at such close range.

Thanks for the nice comments!
The more I look at the photo the more that dark spot and green circle above his head is starting to bother me.
Think i am going to play around with that!

Thanks again for the feed back!

Eric,

Very nice to get this close to a sandhill, in Florida I found that was possible, not so much here in Utah.

I agree with the others about that dark spot at the top of the frame, I'd also suggest desaturating the greens slightly.

Great look at the eye and the open bill is super.
