Luke, Piping Plovers are one of my favorites. I love seeing the tiny chick so close to the adult. Hard to get close to these by us. Nicely done.

Awwwwww! Cute as they come, Luke. I like the way their plumage works with the beach sand. :toast:

very cool, Luke. love the little chick with the parent. I might prefer the birds a touch farther to the left in the frame. This is a kind of weird nit, but directly left of the adult's wingtip, there is what looks like (even though I don't think it really is) a cigarette. It looks less like one in the larger version though.

Cindy,

Plover areas are monitored here as well but no area is blocked off to foot traffic (aside from the nesting areas). Once the birds hatch, they of course need to go from the nesting area to the water which is where they are accessible. I was a "plover steward" for 2 summers so my experience allows me to get close.

Something endearing about the quite mood with adult and chick, rather vulnerable I guess. A more prominent catchlight in the adult would lift this a little, but not much you can do about that.

Sweet and intimate moment here Luke. Well done. Like the closeness of mother and offspring, your image portrays it well, as well as the little one's fragility. :toast:

Very sweet and intimate portrait Luke, it's very gentle and evocative with the chick so close and it's eye half closed.

Great to see this behavior. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few more chicks huddling underneath the adult bird.

I like how they are facing each other, nice low angle too. If it were mine I would crop a sliver off the left and right. :toast:

Very cute Luke, I really like how the chick is facing the adult and the eye contact you got from the adult. I also appreciate the monochromatic tones in this image.
