20 minutes to sunrise

I often visit this place - the lakes region at the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park in Piedmont, Italy, but I've never had before such good conditions for a moody picture of Rosset lake and the Gran Paradiso range. Not a cloud in the sky but instead some magnificent hues, and just the right amount of wind for having some ripples in the water, making for an interesting texture without completely ruining the reflections. Taken 4 days ago about 20 minutes before sunrise.

Techs: eos 50D, Tokina ATX-Pro 12-24 f4, GND 4x, tripod. 1/5 @f16 single exposure.

Your C&C are as always highly appreciated, please give a look at the larger size for much better details and dynamic range.

I love this time of day. For me, it creates a feeling of awe and vulnerability.

Lovely rich late light color. That little guy (thistle?) at the bottom adds a lot.

Thanks for commenting, pales. Matt, the same for me, it's just a glorious moment. John, yes, that's a thistle. I watched this plant slowly growing year after year, at the beginning there was only a flower, then two, three... Now there are 5, everything grows very slowly at this altitude, but life still wins!

Beautiful lighting and the yellow flower really compliments the image. Morning a a calmness that now other time of the day offers.

Really great image Paolo. It makes me smile...I was not far from this place, by the lakes of Fenetre, between Italy and Switzerland....enjoying the same cloudless sky and glorious glow :):) Really great image, the ripples add tons of interest to the image and the circular area of glow in the background gives the image a very mystical look...
