Great egret

For some reason I have difficulty getting images of this species that I like. I do like this one for the position of the bird and the BG. The water drops coming off the foot add too IMO. Light is a bit troublesome, but I thought I would post it as it is a species other than an osprey or BBWD. Please view the larger version and the detail is much better.

Ron, I like all the things you mention liking about this shot. the water drops are an especially nice touch. I agree about the light being difficult--the shadowed blue tones on the upperside of the bird look a little odd.

When there is a blue sky and a white bird the shadowed feathers often take on the bluish tone as in this image. If you notice the primaries also show the blue as they are actually translucent in nature so the blue sky shows through. I often wonder is the translucent nature of white birds feathers what creates the blue tones seen in the shadowed areas as well. I realize I could correct the blue tones, but wanted to see what others thought about this. I try to watch other white egrets fly without taking images of them to see if I can see the bluish tones, thus indicating they are not an artifact of the imaging process. At times I do believe I see this naturally. Not sure though.

Nice air position, and I love the waterdrops. I have mixed feelings about the blue tones, but not enough to diminish my enjoyment of the image.

I like this as presented Ron. Sharpness, flight pose, head position and background all excellent. I have no issue with the blue tones since it seems to me that is what our eyes would see in this lighting. The only thing on my wish list for this image might be that some of the whites were slightly less bright. I really like the water drops coming off the feet. Nicely done!

I agree Ron. Some of the whites are bright. I have not done any work in that regard with this image, so I can def bring them down a bit. I will work on that and maybe repost. Thanks.
