An iconic view, but I had a great time watching this afternoon rain sweep across the desert. Wondering if it works for others and your thoughts on the B&W conversion. Compression is hurting the details, even in the large version.

A wonderful scene, but too little tonality in the conversion. This is a grand and sweeping image and it demands a large range to adequately express the "shock and awe."

Very powerful capture, the smaller image doesn't do this justice.

An awesome view! Craig's correct, the larger version is much better, but I agree with Phil. There is a lot of potential lurking here, it just needs to be bolder.

Thanks to all for the critiques. I'll work up a version with expanded tonal range. I wish it was possible to replace/repost the larger version.

I like this very much. Then again, I'm biased--I have something similar.

Not sure anyone will take another look at this post now that it's been pushed to the second page but I'd love to hear some thoughts on my rework of this image. I expanded the tonal range and did some split toning that I felt complimented the desert scene.

I've been away for a couple of weeks and I'm catching up.The repost has a lot more "pop" but the sky seems a bit overdone. You might want to try blending the sky from the first post with the ground from the second. Could be a lot of work. Otherwise great shot. :toast:
