col,
I like it and agree with your assessment of the cub's watching mom. You may get comments like "I wish the mother was looking up". That would be nice, but, a lot of us would be overjoyed to have just seen this let alone to have captured it so well.

Hi Larry
Yes it has been said to me if she was looking towards me it would have been a better shot ok,but being from Ireland and seeing a grizzly with cubs just blew me away,I have some more shots where all 5 are in shot, will post them soon.Yellowstone is amazing,I will never forget my short time there, like all of my 2 weeks I spent in USA.Thanks for your comment.

Col, I see you're one of the fortunate ones who got to see them fairly close. The only time I watched them they were well over 150 yards away. I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Nice shot. She's also known as "White Claws" for obvious reaons. The tricky part was getting all five in the frame, so I'd like to see those. I heard someone saw her last week and she still had all the cubs.

This is a nice shot. I was in Yellowstone last fall and didn't see one bear--they were headed for higher ground for hibernation. So consider yourself lucky to get such a nice shot of bears regardless of whether or not the mother is looking up. I like the almost washed out surrounding foliage, and it makes the bears stand out. I thought it was snow in the thumbnail.

Hi Col and welcome to NPN :wavey: This is a great post to start with and what I like most about it is the 'feel', created by the coloration of the surrounding environment and the fact that they match the bear so well. It is also a nice behavioral image, one that is about education, a very strong concept! I do think it is a pity that the second cub's face is not visible and therefore it would have been better if it would not be visible at all IMO. The composition is a little too centered fro my taste as well. Pointing the camera a bit more to the right or alternatively cropping a bit from the left would solve that. Thanks for sharing this and I am looking forward to more of your work here Col. :toast:

HI Col,

Welcome to NPN and to the Fauna Gallery in particular - I hope this is only the first of many contributions (both images and comments) from you!

I think this is a very strong first post (and I'm sure it's a great reminder to you of an encounter you'll cherish forever). My views of the image are very similar to what Vincent said, so I won't repeat the same points.

One "procedural" comment/suggestion: I think you'll find the quality of the feedback on your images will improve if you give everyone a little more to work with, particularly on the technical side of the equation, i.e., stating the camera, lens, ISO, aperture, SS, etc., you used in capturing the image. This is, of course, totally up to you, but it can help everyone help you (or learn FROM you!).

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...
