Triplets in Silhouette

This was my last morning in the Black Hills and first attempt at a silhouette. These three guys were just about to cross the main road in Wind Cave NP. The sky was drab, unfortunately. Cropped the road on the bottom and a portion of the sky. Comments would be greatly appreciated on this one, especially.
Thanks,
Troy

Nice image, but IMHO it is cropped just a bit too tight on the bottom. Glad you got the silhouette. Thanks for posting.

Troy, this is a pretty strong silhouette, despite the grey sky. Those nice big antlers make it work as well as the head positions with the center one giving you a head turn. I do agree it is a bit tight at the bottom and also would have preferred the horizon leveled out. The pano crop was a good good choice IMO.

Hi Troy,

I think one thing you'll quickly learn on NPN is that there is no single best way to create any type of image. A good example here is that the two previous commenters (including my esteemed colleague Vincent) commented on the image being a bit tight on the bottom while I quite LIKE the fact that the subjects are positioned so low in the frame. To me this placement keeps the subjects grounded and also adds a degree of "vastness" to the scene. I think it's unfortunate that you had such a drab sky to work with (tho' if you're inclined it would be a simple matter to add one or more colour photo filters to this image to add nice punch to that sky) and I do wish the right-most deer's silhouette didn't overlap the trees behind it. Overall tho' I find this a pleasing scene - well done!

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Brad

Welcome. Since you have so little canvas at the bottom and it is pitch black....I would just make a new canvas..paste this in and color the bottom black until you liked the look of it. Then crop.

Agree, the animals are beautiful and look like expensive bronzes.

I think the ground/sky ratio is fine if you can pull some color out of that bland sky. What happens if you boost saturation? I think it would have been better if the right hand bull were out of the scene so one would have the two elk, with the bigger near center and the foliage outline to balance. It is good that you have the trees in decent focus, as well as the main subjects.
