Thanks everyone for your comments on the previous image. One of the great things about NPN is how we can post and learn how to improve not only our photography, but processing, presentation and all the things that go in to creating the work that we all enjoy. so thanks!

Here is a simple image of a summer garden up on the Sonora Pass of the Eastern Sierra, just about 9,000ft. I love this meadow. But as most of you all experience, wandering around a meadow of flowers and greenery can be quite frustrating trying to find an image that suits your eye. This particular morning I struggled as I was looking for that isolated lupine or Corn lily... time was slipping by as the morning sun would soon hit the meadow by about 7am or so. I was running out of time. The meadow was wet with dew, the temp was in the mid 40's I would guess so early in the morning. I'm in shorts and my boots and legs getting wet from the dew. The mosquitoes still sleeping, I guess. I came upon this little arrangement. Nothing spectacular, but it was the little tiny Forget-me-nots that prompted me to set up the camera. Tiny, but I liked how they set up against the corn lily and the blooming Lupine. A little piece of heaven just waiting to be permanently remembered.

Your thoughts and comments always welcome.

Oh, 4x5, 210mm, V100, f/45 @ 8s. TK's masks and a slight, 10% Orton effect for a little contrast/glow boost.

Thanks!

Lon

I really like how amongst the dense foliage this has quite a distinct shape to it. Really like it.

Well structured image Lon. A piece of heaven indeed. You're making me miss my 4x5. So much detail here its hard to take it all in. Ah, and then the large one. That satisfies my hunger. What an image!

Superb, Lon! The larger version provides much more detail, thanks for uploading. Beautiful arrangement here, well balanced composition and the purple flower pop without overpowering the scene. I am not sure if this is your best corn lily image, but this is very pleasing indeed!

This is splendid. A peice of heaven certainly is an apt description. I can just make out some of the dew drops and it only makes me want to see it even larger. I do have a tiny nit - I wish I could just see a little more of the lupines at the top.

I really like the contrast between the cool greens and the warm greens. Throw in the smattering of purples and it is fantastic!

Lon.

Lush, diverse and heavenly. Composition of such an imagee looks incredibly difficult for a scene like this, but I think the way you positioned the flowers on the "ground glass" is what makes the image all come together. Definitely and "Ahhhh..." image and not a "Wow" but it's subtlety and it's contemplative nature make it special.

Very nice composition that you put together, Lon. The large version is really very nice. The touch of flowers and lupines make it work for me. Nice color and wonderful detail in that large version.

Great colors, I do wish for more of the lupines up top though

Lon, I've never got a shot of my own along this line that I really liked. This is excellent IMO. I especially like how the FG is a bit open or low in perspective, and then the eyes can wander right up to the taller lupine in the BG. As such it makes for a perfect full frame image to take a look around in.

Lon, it is often hard to to find the right composition in a field of wildflowers but you have done a great job with this one. The detail in the larger image is really nice.

HI Lon,

Excellent detail and crisp, cool colors. The patterns and shapes of the greens provide plenty of visual interest. Well done! :wavey:

This is classical Overacker - and so well made. The Forget-me-nots make the image and I imagine that it was not easy to find such a coherent arrangement. All makes sense here and shows deliberate "image-design" work!

Hey Lon,
I thought not including more flowers would hurt this.....boy was I wrong! The lushness and light just pops off the screen and my eye just flows through the scene! Very well done! :toast:

Thank you very much for your comments and observations.

I absolutely understand the comments about more lupine up top, or not having them cut off. I don't disagree and if I remember right, there are more flowers above. To each our own I guess, but if I think of the lupine as a compositional element, or framing element and not just individual flowers that I want to look at, I think the lupine work well to just accent the color and frame the scene. Otherwise, the little f-m-n's might just not be strong enough to hold the image together on their own.

Thanks again folks!

Lon

I like the comp as is and I can see the point of less or more, but that's what photography composition is all about. What we choose to leave out. I like your choice. Well done!

Beautiful scene and love how you created this scene. Lots of elements, but the light and soft color makes it all work. Love the detail here.

I really like this composition because of the different textures of the grass, and the light and dark green of the grass. The touch of purple in the background is nice.

Superb, Lon. Love the greens and the contrasting shapes of the corn
lilly leaves vs the lupine leaves, :toast: Preston and I spent the last two days on the Pass, seems ALL the wildflowers are blooming now.

Sorry for getting to this so late, Lon. I'm really behind on comments and the laptop makes it more difficult to appreciate the images here. Still, even on a laptop screen this is one very beautiful image. The variety of plants you've crammed into the frame is impressive and the colors and textures look perfect. And gosh, the detail and texture is amazing even on a laptop screen. Well done all around!
