Reduced to the bare essentials with the fog this thick. Tried to leave a lot to the imagination. Once again from Red Rock Lake.

Comments and critiques always welcome, and thanks for looking,

Morris

Excellent. I love the spare but expressive presentation.

In images like this the center of interest always seems somewhat muted to me. Any suggestions for dealing with that problem while retaining the background fog? Increase saturation?

Some increase in saturation seems to help, as well as contrast, but using masks to not affect the fog. Hope that helps, Patrick.

Agreed, especially using mask to avoid wiping out the "mysterious" fog. Maybe it's just me (preference), but I always look for a foreground object to "pop" and attract the eye. See my comment on "Fins" this page.

Morris, love the minimalist approach. Sometimes less is always better. Your other fog image was great to. Sorry I didn't get to comment on it.

I can see a few cropping options, I'm partial to square with the rock central but others and uncropped work too. This is full of mystery. Really nice shot.

Morris,
The simple, clean composition works so well with the image. Handled the exposure nicely. Best Regards.

Love the simplicity and design of your composition Morris. Fantastic. The solid details in the foreground rock and the ambiguity of the background works so very well. Another superb fog image. Love it.

Oh cmon Morris--if you're gonna go minimal--go minimal and get rid of the rock. Who needs a rock when you got fog. Course, then you'd get only one comment--but it would be real positive, i can promise you that!
EDIT: Ok, on a hard second look, ive reconsidered. You need to crop this so the rock is coming off the side into the frame. Then people will freak out and complain about how the comp is bizarre and the rock shouldnt be cut off and on the side, blah blah. That's when you know you have a successful image...
EDIT EDIT: NO--wait, i have an even more brilliant idea--put it in the corner!!

morris, when you're down to the bare essentials, as you are here in this fog, it comes down to how you arrange your elements in the composition. despite stan's EDIT and EDIT EDIT, I think you've done well. Of course, one could go on and on with cropping suggestions or re-shooting suggestions but it's pretty elegant as it is.

Morris,

Gotta go along with Stuart's comments... there are crop suggestions waiting all over.... but I think the fog has created a great entry in to the use of negative space, and this fits the bill wonderfully. No nits or suggestions.

This little lake has been producing!

Minimalistic in a very nice way! The diamond shape of the rock and its reflection is great!

Morris,

Excellent use of conditions, without the fog it would just be a rock. Ohh and water but that fog gives the whole image a mood of mystery. Nicely done and did the fog ever lift?

Morris, I like the series you have posted recently. Images that are austere yet powerful in their simplicity. I for one am finding this style appealing right now. The overwhelmingly complex landscape has its place, but the serenity of this image is kinda nice for a change.

Thanks so much, everyone, for your comments.
Paul, no it never did lift in the time I spent there. And this was around 10:00 to 11:00, which is quite a bit later than it usually takes for fog to burn off here in Colorado. You can blame it on the monsoonal flow we get this time of year.
