Day Lily

Here is a day lily from my front yard. I love these things. Believe it or not, I had to lower the saturation to prevent clipping in the red channel. Ya gotta love Velvia.

I was inspired by the 4x5 macro work Mel Ladewig posted in the RMNP forum so I dug out my little Tominon lens and gave it a try. It was great fun.

Shen Hao PTB 4x5
Tominon 105mm f/4.5
Velvia 50

Need sunglass to view this image with such strong fiery red  Really good details especially of the pollen grains. Like your choice of DOF with the soft yellow and green in the center. Excellent comp :toast:

The vibrant colors are spectacular Mark. Really good detail, DOF/POF. My only nit (and I'm being really picky here  ) is that I wish the pistil wasn't going out of the top of the image. Nevertheless, a fine image.

Striking colors and image Mark. I understand why you chose the center anther to be in sharp focus but the blurred one in the front bothers me. Probably just me. I actually like the blurred pistil. To my eye it adds energy to the image. Really nice work.

The more I look at it, the more I'm ok with your focal plane decision.

Nice 4x5 Macro, Mark. Having done just a little 4x5 work, I can appreciate how difficult it must be for macro. I love the vivid colors. :toast:

Beautiful fiery red, Mark. I'm wondering if you used a more narrow f/stop, if you could have gotten all of the anthers totally in focus as well as the front edge of the petal. Just a stray thought ...

Cheers,

Carol

Beautiful bold colours and striking comp. But I wish all the anthers were sharp though, nice image none the less :wavey:

Mark: One of my favorite POVs for day lilies. I like your DOF/POF choice and the colors are intense. Really nice work. >=))>
