Black-Capped Chickadee

I photographed this little chickadee back in March. At the same time as my last Chickadee post. I liked the background of dormant grass lit by the late afternoon sun.

Nikon D300 w/500mm f/4
1/250sec. f/4.0 ISO 400
Tripod, sb-600 with better beamer.
Perch set up above feeder.

Thanks for looking.

Nice work - the background really makes this, although the bird is sharp and well framed.

This looks like our version of the Coal Tit although I have never seen a Coal Tit in as lovely a condition as this. You've captured lovely sharp detail in the bird with good use of the flash and I like the overall colour balance of the image. Graham

I think you did an excellent job with this setup. The perch has interest and the BG is very nice. I don't have any expertise at all with flash but this looks good. :toast:

Gorgeous bg, Joel and a nice shot of the chickadee. The bird looks perhaps a bit oversharpened to my eye. :toast:

Joel, this is lovely--great looking set-up and bg. my only nit is trivial, I think that if the bird's pose was a bit less upright (more horizontal) it would make the comp perfect. as is, it's excellent.

Really nice detail and exposure with a clean bg. I would have preferred a touch more depth of field to get more of the perch in focus but you didn't have a lot of light to work with and I know these guys move fast. Well done. :toast:

Nice image quality and clean setup. Just a bit static for my tastes.
