Butterfly milkweed (with accompanying caterpillar)

These are one of my favorite early summer bloomers on the prairie because of their vibrant color, and they attract swarms of butterflies. Comments appreciated.

Canon Rebel XTI, handheld
35-80 mm lens
ISO 400 (it was very breezy that day), F13 @ 1/250

Angela: Nice find and vibrant colors. I wish you could have gotten enough DOF to have the monarch sharp but so goes the wind. Good comp and decisions. >=))>

Love the critter in this Angela and the orange on green. I also like the diagonal comp. No suggestions.

Angela,

Great color in this soft, diffused light. I too wish all the orange clusters were more in focus, but the important part is keeping the eye up front where there is sharp focus and attention. The color and patterns of the caterpillar add great interest to this little scene.

Nice catch. I've seen them with butterflies on them but never a caterpillar.

You've got two great subjects in one frame Angela. It's nice to see a hint of the symbiotic relationship between these two species. Now ... where did I leave that tripod?
