Catlins, New Zealand

This small lake was formed behind coastal sand dunes after the last ice age. It is gradually shrinking and will eventually be replaced by forest. Its a good example of why the Catlins region is often dubbed "Where the rainforest meets the coast".

Canon 5DMkII, 70-200mm 2.8L, ISO 100, f18, 1.6s.

Incredible light. Great reflection but what I really love is how the grasses in the water are perfectly illuminated against the black water.

Very interesting. I had to gaze for a moment to get my bearings on this one. Great colors and fine details.

Everything is so spiky! I like how the foreground grass interacts visually with the reflections of the background elements. Very different, very nice.

The reflection is really great here, and the grasses in the FG throw all of it off from a simple reflection image. The lighting kind of bothers me, but I can't put my finger on why.

Kah Kit,

To be honest I like the thumbnail more than the fullsized image. There is a lot going on with different textures colors and it is all in focus which for me is visually distracting. It's a well executed photo though.

Awesome shot, Kah. I notice a slight clockwise shift to the image but it's really minor. Incredible multi-reflective layers. Really stunning !!

superb detail and great light. the reflection is perfect and the reeds root the image as you'd want. :toast:

Like a scene from a botanical garden only of natural making. Terrific shot!

Beautiful light. Great detail and the reflection is very nice. I really like the foreground grasses with the dark water. This has a different look, but I like it.

I love the composition, especially the way the grasses in the front surprise me and shake things up quite a bit. The colors are nice, but the heavy contrast is holding me back. It make me uncomfortable in combination with my perception of the lighting on the scene and the abundance of details in the forest.

Oh ya just packed full of graphic goodness. Love this Kah Kit
The reeds up front give it an all around cohesiveness. Well seen

Great scene Kah Kit, I love the framing on the reflection. I agree that the contrast is a little hard.

Good grief, Kah Kit. It took me a while to figure this out. Stunning image and almost indecipherable. Excellent all around.

A little perplexing at first glance, but a very nice scene.

Had to do a double take on the reeds in the foreground, because I thought they were part of the reflection above. And I couldn't locate them there. Made my brain go,"Huh?" Great capture, processing, and scene.

This is great, Kah! Somehow it messes with my mind, and I like that. Great eye!

Wow--lots of reflections here--i love it! If you really want to mess with people's minds, rotate this 90 deg and present it as a vertical

Great shot, the complexity is what does the trick for me. It needs some ccw rotation I think.

Kah Kit,

I think this is beautiful and outstanding. Can't really think of anything to criticize or suggest other than the contrast may be a little heavy, but that's very minor and of course a matter of personal choice. I'm really loving this one.

What a fascinating image! A bit foreign, surreal and knowable all at the same time. I can't think of anything to suggest here other to enjoy a big print. Good stuff!
