I'm interested in whether you think this has been oversharpened. I'm trying a new technique (also used on bowerbird which at least one person thought was a tad oversharpened)and I suspect it is a little bit drastic.

Fairly heavy vertical crop from a horizontal image
1d2n 500/f4 1.4X
ISO 400 f7.1 1/400 overcast

cheers
Rob

Excellent sparrowhark image - great pose, background and great view of the diagnostic skinny legs and long middle toe. It does look a bit oversharpened on my monitor, especially the bark it's sitting on which looks somewhat harsh, also feather tips on belly.

Nice one, Rob. In the larger image, I think I am seeing some minor sharpening artifacts in the plumage. :toast:

Rob,

I agree with Simon about this being over sharpened, but that will be very easy to fix. It a fine image and I love the eye.

Hi Rob, I'm probably the one who thinks the image is over-sharpened. Working on new lenses for my eyes so who knows ? In this new technique, are you fading the sharpening after the fact?

Regards,

Carol

I like the composition and especially the muted colors overall.

I agree with the previous comments on this being slightly oversharpened.

The perch in bowerbird and sparrowhawk are borderline harsh. As for the sparrowhawk image as a whole its wonderful and thers no doubt it would find space on my wall.

Great shot; maybe a little oversharpened.

Neat capture. I agree with Simon's assessment of the sharpening, and the remainder of his critique. :toast:

Very neat looking bird Rob. Solid comp and nice perch-love the web in the LRHC. I also agree with Simon's assessment on the sharpening.

I suppose it's subjective, but it looks fine to me; not over-sharpened. A wonderful capture, Rob.

Sharpening is very subjective and I tend to go for rather a lot myself. I do feel the perch and legs appear a bit "crunchy" - an expression somebody else used which seems to convey the appearance to me. I don't have any sparrowhawk images and this is a great one otherwise!
