I took this shot of my good friend and fellow photographer, Rick. I like how it shows him stopping to take in the grandeur of the scene.

Canon EOS 1D Mark II
Canon EF 24-70L at 24mm
Tripod
ISO 200
f/22
1/5 seconds
cropped from both sides approximately 20% to create the panoramic.

One great example of how a photo can fool the eyes! Just looking at the thumbnail I thought I was looking at a small waterfall. It was only when I saw your friend standing there that I realised that this is quite a substantial waterfall! The included trees do also hint in that direction, but not nearly as strong as the lone figure standing there.

I like this very much. Grandeur is the right word here. All the shades of green are very pleasant to the eye and the lines of the water find their way through the photo nicely. Good one!

This is excellent, and an interesting crop. Does the original have a little more space on the RHS to get the complete tree trunk? If not, it's still quite good. Good choice in comp using the foliage to frame the scene. For me another option would be to crop from top to just below the lower diagonal deadfall, although you lose the space above the falls. Nice work.

Hey Ned,

others have already commented on the terrific sense of scale in this. It is so well done that your friend looks almost "Liliputian." Even with him there, it is hard to accept the scale of this cataract. Comp and exposure are excellent in supporting this. Nicely done!

Great color, great use of DOF. Generally I like "nature" shots without people, but it was correct to have someone in the frame here to show the scale, I think.

Certainly a "grand" scene to take in, Ned. I agree with everybody else about the scale and saturated greens. IMO, the crop works perfectly as is, enhancing the vertical aspect of the scale. Really well seen! :toast:

By the way, where was this taken?

Ned,
Having Rick in the shot really shows a great perpective of the falls. Nicely done - you da man on waterfalls.

BTW, you are both famous! I saw both your names in the credits of the video playing on a LCD TV in one of the bedrooms of the "Street of Dreams". Boy that is a mouth full...

Thanks for the nice comments. When this image presented itself I thought "wow... this could be really cool!"

This is along Wahkeena Creek in the Columbia River Gorge area of Oregon. It is one of the best mossy boulder creeks around.
