Shot from a boat in Ireland on an overcast and pretty windy day. The waves were huge and some surfers were doing a great job at riding them.

I tried to capture the action and the bravery of a small man against a huge and powerful wave.

Nikon D100, Sigma 135-400 lens, f5.6, ISO 800, handheld
PS: slight crop, levels, USM

I really like how each piece of the wave is in contrast to the one in front and the one behind. That top right corner is my eye's final stop in the image.

Amazing capture! I really love the wave, but the surfer gives it the right perspective on the massivness and power of it.

Thanks for your comments everybody. I must confess that I did try to run one of those waves and my head is still rocking from the tumbling I took...

Guess you need to be a REALLY GOOD surfer before you get into big wave riding, but I did experience first hand the power of the waves.

Magnificent shot Jesus. Where exactly in Ireland did you find these waves? They look more like Hawaii to me!! I'd love to get a shot like this but I don't think I'll see Hawaii any time soon. Superb!

spectacular! i love how the wave goes from bottom left corner to top right, and how MASSIVE that wave is! this shot is great, show's the part he's riding, and the part that'll nearly kill him if he falls...

(looks a bit like that powerade commercial ;) )
