Tijeras

Based on comments on RMNP, i reworked this shot that i took at sunrise Thursday in the Great Sand Dunes Preserve, at lower Sand Creek Lake. That's Mount Tijeras, a 13K ft peak in the Sangres (and incidentally, a fun little climb!) Originally i used two exposures, but i reworked with a single exposure and double processed the RAW, it gave me better (morer natural) results i think. Great morning to be out in the mountains!

The new prosessing looks great Stan, the shadow detail is great. Love the reflection and the light on the peak. A keeper for sure.

Very pretty Stan - lloks like a great morning for sure. There seems to be a slight halo around the peaks, or is that just my imagination?

If your eyes are really sharp, you probably are seeing the results of the sharpening, Bill.

gorgeous diffused light on the peak, stan. all working well for me. the line of the ridge/peak to the sky seems hard and abrupt and perhaps the least believable thing about the image if you see what i mean!??! on second look, comp seems a little imbalanced - lots of stuff going on to the left leaving right hanging a little?

This looks nice, Stan. Love how angle of the mountain matches with clouds... the scene feels very peaceful. Nice.

Super solid reflection/mountain image Stan. You won't win an award for creativity with this one, but I know you do what the subject deserves and here it was to portray it effectively and that's accomplished. Maybe the fg (also the water) is a tad too dark. I think the gradient from near to far regarding brightness is a tiny bit too strong.

Very nice results Stan. Good idea on the double processing, it does appear more natural. Looks like a very fun peak to ascend. Bet the views up there are pretty awesome.

Thanks!
Dietrich--i think youre right about the fg--thats the result of using one exposure rather than two. Well i can easily correct that, thanks.
You're also right about the creativity--wasnt meant to be creative, just to fill in some gaps in my collection of the area.

Overall the processing looks pretty good and a very nice scene. I do notice a bright line along the top of the peak (which I have seen on some of my images under similar light conditions).

Technically this image is pretty sound in composition and processing, but it doesn't quite grab as much as most of your dune shots. Not exactly sure why, because this looks like a beautiful scene that I'd love to explore someday.

This is really good, Stan. The balance light reminds me of Ian Cameron's image further up, which I really like.

Hello Stan,

great exposition, that's very good. The quietude of the lake gives a great reflexion, well done!!!

Man that is one of my favorite spots, but its really difficult to capture the feeling of the cliff face of the peak soaring almost 2000ft out of the lake. The only way I can think of to give this impression effectively is to make an absolutely enormous print.

One thing I do notice is the tilted trees on the left due to tipping the camera down. Maybe some perspective correction would help strengthen this even a little more. You've caught some really great conditions and your processing looks really good to me.

That water is so calm it looks lieka sheet of plexiglass, what a sky and you doubled it's impact with the reflection. I like it.

Sweet Stan! Really like how the lit peak came out in processing. I may shift the blues a bit deeper/warmer? Maybe its being against the peak, they just seem off to me.

Stan I like this a lot with the exception of the lighting around the peak which looks completely unnatural to me. An easy fix I'm sure.

I love the light and how the clouds are placed just right above the peak. Great high mountain image.

Really nice, Stan. I think the colors are fantastic and wonderful reflection. This is just really pretty to look at. I like the touch of the few flowers in the foreground too. Nice work.
