Mossbrae Falls

After a "Stand By Me" walk along the railroad tracks you arrive at the incredible Mossbrae Falls. I had envisioned an intimate image of a detail of the falls which I was able to execute, but unexpectedly I was taken aback by the wide view of my favorite section of the falls. Mossbrae is definitely one of my favorite photographic locations!

I was just here too once at noon and another earlier in the morning. I think my favorite time was noon though a little tricky. Did you visit Burney Falls that was an awesome place too. Just posted an image in the CANP forum. I like all the details shown but it does have a strong HDR feel. I think it might benefit from having some darker areas mixed into the scene. Nice work

Very nice image, and I agree with Steve it looks a little off in a hyper real HDR way. On my monitor it looks as if there could be some blown highlights? It's a beautiful place that I would like to get to one day.

Justin, I like the view but I'm not sold on the processing here myself. I'd start with the fact that there wasn't a need to blend exposures here (or ever in this type of scene IMO) and it's given the image a flat look with muddy shadow details. Additionally, there are certain whites that are pretty hot, especially when compared with the rest of the highlights. Not sure why. The processing here should be a breeze with one exposure and maybe at the most a blend or two from that same RAW for the darkest areas. A little highlight dodge work should be all that's needed to to make the water sing.

Thanks for the feedback so far, here's a workup from a single exposure, I definitely can see the depth difference.

A nice pic of a sweet place. The second version is MUCH better, but still has a bit of a way to go to totally get rid of the HDR feel, IMO.

Justin, the repost is 110% better! Wonderful scene you've captured and the sharpening here makes it look 3D like! :toast: :toast: :toast:

Second post MUCH improved! I think the falls could have a touch more highlights still. Nice comp here!

Nice work Justin. I think the repost is an improvement. The bright spots in the first caught my eye and don't in the re-edit.

Much improved with the repost, Justin. Looks like a beautiful waterfall with many alternate comps with the cascades.

Justin,

I'm really liking this comp, perspective and viewpoint (all different things you know... ) This gives me the feeling that you're below the level of the water and I like how it seems almost right on top of the viewer, coming right at you. Yet, the bottom remains just a lovely compliment to the beauty and interest of the multiple cascades of the falls. I really like this.

My only nit would be what appears to be the clipped water at the top middle where the water is most concentrated. Not really an image killer, and I'm hoping it's not a bigger issue when and if you try to print this. Otherwise, this is a beauty.

I don't use HDR often but I will say it does have it's benefits, nice adjustments Justin.
