I really enjoyed visiting this wonderfal place, when you exclude the surroundings it begins to take on a surreal feeling. Almost looks as if it were a miniature landscape, I doubt I could build such a nice looking replica of the real thing.

Is this from up on Cinder Cone? I did that hike years ago and have wanted to go back again for some time. Not too many vistas like it.

As far as the shot goes, it's certainly a nice capture. Good light and composition and I can't see how it could be improved. It really highlights one of the more unique areas of the park.

Wonderful! Terrific lighting and curves throughout this parched volcanic piece of earth. The one piece of snow? interrupts only slightly.

An amazing capture. It does feel like a miniature scene (I used to build miniature dollhouses) and that makes it very abstract for me. Love the play of light and the splashes of color provided by the (miniature) trees. WAY cool shot :toast:

Phil, Yes it's from the top up there. The was mostly buried in snow so I didn't get to see all of it but that just gives me an excuse to return. I caught a case of marmot in the engine on the return to the car. Good thing I checked the oil before driving away other I would of cooked him. I did snap a photo of his fat butt while in there.

Angela, thanks. Maybe you could add some mini hikers to the scene.

Marc, it's the last sign of winter and was purposely left behind for a conversation piece.

I can't wait to go here, the road was closed for so long I couldn't make it this year!

Great spacing in the composition. A couple of the trees don't look as sharp as they could be. Maybe just the case of viewing it so small?

Justin, since everything is distant from the camera everything is in focus and I don't see any lack of sharpness. Any lack of finer details only be a result of compression.

Beautiful "mini" landscape. The bright green trees against brown volcanic soil. I was out there back in the early '90's. This beautiful scene make me want to go back.

I've never been to Lassen, but every time I see a stunning image from there I want to go. This is no exception.

Really nice comp steve, love the feel of this image, like you said, almost a replica. Nice light and colors as well. That one bright area distracts slightly. Nice work.

I love this Steve! Your trip to Northern CA was certainly a productive one. This and your last image of Mt. Shasta are my two favorites so far...This image reminds me a lot of Sean Bagshaw's "Cool World" shot. Outstanding work!

Michael, this scene is iconic for Lassen at least for the older pros. The same typical shot has been seen in various books many times so I'm not breaking any new ground with this one. On the net here it hasn't been shot to death yet, it will though.

Chip, I cloned out the lego land hikers.

The long shadows and nice light really brings the magic out of this unusual setting. Unusual for me at least. I might prefer it without the patch of snow, but it certainly works as captured. Very cool!

Steve,

This is such an awesome image and landscape. I'm not sure if others have mentioned this, but I'm particularly drawn to the long shadows; the time of day is just perfect for creating the great play of light and shadow on the landscape. Love to get this on LF one day...

This is sensational, Steve! The perspective is so interesting. With the light and the gentle curves of the terrain, the trees for a sense of scale and the composition creating an abstract feel, it's a captivating image to dwell on. Thanks for the treat, congrats on the EP, and very sorry I didn't get around the forums to see this sooner. :toast:

The sidelight/back lighting provides dimension. As first glance of this photo, I thought this is a miniature scaled model.
