Hi all

Not the greatest shot in terms of composition and light, I know. But I found it fairly funny to watch that little bug walk up to the damselfly. A few seconds after this shot had been taken, the bug touched the damsel's legs, which promted its quick death... silly little bug.

Techs: Nikon D300, Sigma 400/5.6, PK-13 and PN-11 extension tubes, tripod, mirror up, cable release, manual focus.

I think its a pretty nice shot, I would have probably cloned out the yellow on the left IMHO, I like the rich green background its perfect Basil.

"the bug touched the damsel's legs, which prompted its quick death...." ooops!

Nice catch. I like the interaction of predator and prey. The light is a little harsh as you noted, and it's a tad overexposed (the blue channel is starting to clip) but the back story that you included really makes it interesting. You may want to clone/crop out the bit of yellow in the LRHC.

Wow. Two bugs in one frame. Love the blue colored damsel - very striking, Basil

This is exactly why I enjoy macro photography so much. People like us can see more with one eye closed and looking through a tiny viewfinder with the other, than most people can with both eyes wide open. It's cool you were able to watch this random act of nature unfold and also capture it in a photograph. Well done. :toast:

Thanks for the encouraging comments, everybody! :toast:

I agree about the light & slight overexposure, and also about the cloning job. I should've seen that in the first place.

John - absolutely. I think seeing the photographs is one thing, but watching the "movie" in the viewfinder is even better.

Good added interest with the second small insect, nice contrasting BG.
I would remove the stem right side, it doesn't need to be there. And a more parallel plane of focus would be better in a perfect world.
That said, I like the fact that this image tells a bit of a story, and two for one works for me
