This was taken a few days ago close to Mammoth in Yellowstone. This is a portrait of a sow with a single cub. More of the cub later.

Thanks for looking at my picture and for any comment.

Wow, the large photo details every hair on this critter. Love the highlights on the bear.
Well done Jack, I really like this pic!

How fortunate you are to have gotten this capture. Yellowstone is my favorite place on earth and while I have been there many times...I have yet to get this close. The foreground of the bush gives your capture a very dramatic feel.

This is a very captivating image Jack. It is as if this bear is stalking prey (not sure if bear do that at all) and trying to make herself invisible in the bushes. For that reason I do not mind the nose being hidden at all. I quite like the DOF as is, retaining enough texture in the BG to given a good sense of habitat. The only thing that strikes me is the yellowish color of the bear. I have never seen a wild bear in my life, but compared images I have seen the coat color look so different. Or maybe it's because the bear lives in YELLOWstone? :toast:

Thanks for the kind comments, everyone! Vincent, black bears can be blond, cinnamon or black. This bear was a color phase between blond and cinnamon. In stong sunlight, I have seen her turn almost gold. Her cub is dark brown. She is a joy to see at anytime.

jack, I like how this gives the feeling of her peeking over the branches at something that caught her interest (hopefully not you for dinner) . I like your decision to crop this into almost a pano shot. Look forward to seeing the cub shots. How long have you been up in Yellowstone for this year?
