Seaside Dragonlet

I was going to post an Ruby Meadowhawk, but John Kerr beat me too it (with a much more interesting shot, mind you). So, instead of infringe on his parade, I'm going with a seaside dragonlet (spot-winged female). There are hundreds of these in the marsh near me and they adorn the shrubbery like Christmas lights. I need to visit when the light is better, but will have to invest in some serious bug repellent prior to that!

Nikon D300s 105mm f/2.8 VR + 1.7X TC HH
f/22
1/200s
ISO 800

lowered exposure 1/2 stop in ACR, sharpened

- Luke

P.S. does anyone know what the bulbous thing between the eyes is?

Interesting frontal shot Luke, good job getting the entire head in focus. As you mentioned, the light is not the greatest, but a good shot none the less.

To answer your question, I believe your referring to the Ocellus, or simple eye.

Very nice Luke. I like the POV and the sharpness on the face is great. I feel your pain in regards to the bug repellant. It's a must this time of year in the woods. Great job.
