Whimbrels

I've got a question are multiple Whimbrel called Whimbrel or Whimbrels? I'm thinking the singular and plural are the same but I'm not sure. This shot was taken this spring on the Washington coast. I wish I had stopped down to about F10 as the back bird's left wing is sharp but not the face, but I guess I wasn't thinking quickly at that point. I like the detail in the left bird. Cropped to about 70% of FF.

Sweet light, Nate. If these ran true to form I don't suspect you had a lot of time to make adjustments. The rear bird looks sharp enough to my eye. My Websters appears only to list plurals if they're different from standard usage. They don't remark on Whimbrel, so I suspect it's pluralized as Whimbrels.

Great flight formation Nate. Both "whimbri" look quite sharp to my eye.

Very nice flight shot, Nate. These guys book right along, nice work to freeze them. I'm not sure if you'd freeze the wings at 1/1000.

For what it's worth: BNA uses "Whimbrels," too.

I love the near-identical poses and the placement of the birds in the frame. Excellent details and very good bg too. Fantastic shot!

wow, Nate, this is really cool! I like the similar poses, and the sharpness looks very good--I don't think the softness on the second bird's head is much of a nit as it is slight and everything else is sharp. impressive catching 2 shorebirds in flight. nice light, bg and comp as well.

Very nice image Nate, this is a species I would love to photograph. I like how both have the down stroke pose.

Nice shot Nate...what I like best is that both birds have the identical wing position....I think that gives this shot a bigger impact. Great work! :toast:

Super Nice Nate!!! Great light and I like the second bird in the frame too, it adds a bit drama for me.

An excellent flight shot. It takes good technique to get flight shots of this size so am suitably impressed. I like the flight formation it always looks more impressive than just the single bird. I would be happy with the detail and dof you have got here. Graham

Cool image, Nate. The wing positions and placement in the frame make for a strong comp. The light, color and faded horizon work for me, too. You already covered any nits I might have had.
