Caiman

I don't post often in the fauna gallery. I tend to hang out over in the Avian and Earth Sea and Sky forums. Hope this image is up to snuff for the great work that is in this gallery.

This is a Caiman from Costa Rica last April. Found this guy in a swampy area. Laid down on my stomach and was able to get this shot. This is full frame except for a crop top and bottom to create the pano.

Loved the little bee on him. Larger version provided for more detailed view.

Canon 50D, 500mm f/4 with 1.4x TC
1/125 @ f/5.6
ISO 400
580 EX Flash @ -2

Thanks for your thoughts.

It's certainly up to snuff. The little bee or wasp puts this over the top and the detail is extraordinary.

I like it Keith..that huge eye is just staring right at you it seems. Love the textures of the caiman's scales; great detail and I love the low angle.

Great details and eye contact. I would like to see some more room around it, especially on the right.

Terrific detail on that interesting eye and face, plus great focus on the secondary subject, the bee! My only wish would be for bit more space at the end of the nose, but clearly you were unable to zoom out! Thanks for sharing.

Nice shot....were you in Puerto Jimenez by any chance? There is a nice swampy spot full of 25 easily spotted caiman (and one shy crocodile.)

Great shot without the bee. An amazing plus with it. Beautiful job.
