Roseate Spoonbill

Just a bird on a bush, but this adult spoonbill is in prime condition. Note the strong head markings and brilliant color.

30D, 500f4, 1/1600 sec, f5.6, ISO 320, ~80% of full frame

Stunning detail and colour David. Not sure how long that hidden leg is but I get a feeling of it being a bit crowded in the bottom RH corner - bit more room for virtual leg??

cheers

Rob,,,,, I totally agree that it feels tight for the length of the extended leg, but unfortunately this is all I've got to play with on the bottom of the frame. This guy stayed put for only a few frames and I was concentrating on getting the focus point on the eye/bill and wasn't paying enough attention to the framing.

Thanks,,,,,,,,David

The colors and the pose are very nice. I like seeing all the different color variations on the birds in this species. Does feel a bit tight but the details are shown well with the tight comp.Love the open mouth.

Great shot! I really like this one. Bottom seems fine to me, in fact I would suggest even cropping a bit more off to help keep the point of interest on the birds head and open bill. Thanks for sharing.

Lovely capture of a bird in near-perfect breeding plumage. I wouldn't change a thing. Fine work, David.

What an interesting range of colors to this bird and wonderful feather detail on the larger version, way to go.

Hi LB,
You caught this one in it's prime plumage. The directional lighting really lit this guy up nicely. I'm surprised this image didn't draw more attention.

David

The detail in the spoonbill and the leaves of the tree it is perched in are excellent. Love the open bill, the natural looking colors and the sharpness. My only issues is how it does not appear to have enough room for the leg at the bottom.

Dave, This is a crazy good shot with really brilliant detail in the eye area. The crop seems a little tight as my mind automatically envisioned this magnificent bird sitting in a tall beautiful green tree which I could not see. Just my opinion but the detail is really terrific. Do you have Roseates in Louisiana?
