Roseate Spoonbill

D300, 500mm f/4, handheld
1/2000 sec at f/8, ISO 640
Photo taken April 27, 2010 at Jefferson Island, LA.
I know the bird is tight in the frame, but the birds were not giving me much lead time as they flew into the trees on the island and I did not get the bird centered in the frame (no additional image on the right). I place the blame on senior reflexes.
Comments and suggestions welcome.

Excellent as expected. It's kind of a shame it bisects the tree but it's OOF enough it doesn't bother me . The detail is really insane on this shot talk about sharp.

I would like to see a little more canvas to the right but this is still very nice as is. Nice word David!

Very dynamic - the action more than makes up for the tight framing IMO. Plus, it is amazingly sharp and detailed for a handheld big lens like this.

The larger version really shows wonderful detail. Nice job on catching the decisive moment here.

Tack sharp, great detail, great colors, perfect DOF and all of a bird on take-off. Well done! You definitely made the most of the situation and you've already commented on the only thing that would make it perfect.

Looks great to me, David. My first impression was that the bird resembles a flower: unusual pose. Certainly lovely and sharp. :toast:

Nice and sharp with cool wing position. The bg is busy, but nothing to be done about that.

Great job on getting this handheld using a 500 lens, the detail on the larger image is impressive, way to go.
