Courting Elephants

Indian Elephants courting.
Begining the ritual of courtship, male places his trunk and chin on the back of female. In case female is interested, she stays put, otherwise she moves on. However in this case, they had a successful mating.
Incidently, only male has tusks in asia, unlike their african cousins.
This is very old picture from the film era, in fact I'm planing to get some of my old slides drum scanned to get nice blow ups.
Canon film camera and 300mm lens.
Thankyou so much for your kind attention & views!

Nice image, Jagdeep. I bet if you were to take this today you would add a tiny bit of space bottom and left. I really like the gesture of the draped trunk.

Perfect photo of the behavior you describe. Now maybe you can look forward to finding their calf next year?

Jagdeep, an interesting scene nicely captured here. I also like the gesture of the draped trunk.

Nice behavioral shot Jagdeep. What film did you use for this? There is a slight green cast visible on my (uncalibrated) laptop, and I wonder what film caused it. Provia?

Thanks Marsel ! This is Provia most likely and you are correct about slight green cast. I needto be careful with my postings.

I love the way you have framed this, Jagdeep, by not including the whole tusker. You have captured the essence of this scene - the tenderness! And, Catherine, regarding your comment about finding their calf next year - the gestation period is 22 months! So, if this mating had been successful, they would have a calf about 2 years later!
