Moose Calf

I was lucky enough to have some time with a mama moose and two tiny calves last week. These two little guys were less than a week old, and they couldn’t be any cuter. Still unsteady on their long legs, it was a joy to watch them wobble around behind mom as she grazed on a nearby hillside.

I really like the long legged extension of this pose. I would ideally wish for an eye highlight, but this is very nice and heavy with the "cute factor." There is a lot going on in background, with bright blues and busy detail. Did they offer you any opportunities against a cleaner environment?

Hard to believe how long his legs are compared to his small body. Cute little guy!

Hi Lon, thanks for commenting - I had hoped for eye highlight as well, but those newborn moose eye lashes made that nearly impossible. I agree about the busy background, that's what puts me "on the fence" about this shot, and that's why I posted it. I did capture several other shots of the calves, but I tend to post shots here that I'm not quite sure about, in an effort to better my understanding of what "works" and what doesn't.

Due to the busy background, harsh light, and lack of comments, this shot will probably end up in my gigantic "doesn't work" pile...

Oh, what a great shot! The calf looks so precarious and uncertainty seems to be all over his face. Certainly shows how vulnerable they are when this young, but I bet it could still scamper around pretty well? Great shot, Guy. I can appreciate how fun it must have to watch them.
