Western Tanager, Piranga ludoviciana

Have been enjoying a proliferation of these little guys at our place over last few years. They are giving me some terrific opportunities.

Canon 50D Canon 400 2.8 w/1.4 ex 1/200th @ f8 iso 640

Thanks for looking.
Comments always welcome.

What a beauty and such vibrant colors. I like how the leaves mimic the bird's colors.

Great colors and I really like the diagonal of the pirch. I also like how the stick on the right and the flowers kind of frame the bird in between. :toast:

Lovely bird Neil! Don't know if its my monitor or not but the branch looks a little hot to me.

I agree with what has been said here. The perch branch is hot, but it works with the almost high key background. Maybe tone it down a bit, but fine like it is.

This is a real beauty! I think that if it were mine, I would select the bird, then select inverse, then tone that bg down just a touch. The detail is excellent in the larger post.

What a beautiful bird! Perch looks ok to me exposure wise. The larger version shows the head much sharper. Well done. Sharon

Neil,

I think the pose is delightful and that the setting and high key background works fine. Saw one of these beauties yesterday but couldn't get a shot before it took off.
