This bird was scrounging around a campsite at Depot Beach, New South Wales. Female and immature Satin Bowerbirds are green like this bird.

Canon 7D, EF70-200 f/4 IS @ 173mm, handheld, hiking tent as a hide, ISO 800, f/5, 1/250, a couple of distracting elements on log digitally disguised.

WoW! What amazing color and calrity. The eye is particularly impressive, and the low angle make this a fantastic shot. Are they relatively common?

Thank you for your comments Luke. These birds are fairly common in wet forest areas of Eastern Australia. The males are glossy blue-black that autofocus systems have trouble locking on to. A got a few shots of a male, but the focus was a bit off, will try again this weekend.

Another example of the amazing diversity and beauty of the avian world. The lavender eye with the yellow/green is quite a color combination. Techs look great. I like the log background as well. :toast:

Seems like you just keep on pulling out one after another incredible species. Not to mention that you seem to nail the shot every time. This one is no exception. The colors and detail are fantastic.
