Teton Grazing
by Wayne Rhodus
After a long, tough winter a small herd of bison are rewarded with emerging grasses to graze on with the snowy Teton Range standing watch in the background. While the bison are relatively small in the frame and lack fine detail I like this image primarily for showing their environmental surroundings.

5 commentsI think this is a great image. I suspect that many are viewing it within the narrow confines of a "wildlife image" and it's being under-appreciated for that reason. I really like the many layers of visual interest, right down to the the depth-providing snags in the foreground. Like with many good animalscapes, I think this needs to be viewed at a VERY large size to be fully appreciated - the 720 pixel (or even 1200 pixel) versions simply don't do it justice. I can easily imagine seeing this as a large poster on a wall in a tourist info centre!
Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Brad I suspect you hit the nail on the head with your response. In this presentation you can see my tendancy toward making "landscape" images. The foreground anchor, layering patterns and inclusion of the bison as an element are all landscape constructs. So you caught me doing what I like doing best ... making landscape images.
As soon as I saw the bison in this setting I immediately knew what elements I wanted to capture for the viewer. Thanks for noticing.
