A Shower and A Rainbow
by Chris Chamberlain
Well, this is Vernal Falls, Yosemite National Park, CA. The first time I have ever taken the hike up to have a look at it for myself. Anyway, everyone must know what it's like to stand in the blast zone of a big waterfall during peak flow. If not, try it, it's loads of fun, especially trying to fumble with a camera. So I found this rock to use as shield of some sorts. I hope you enjoy it, and thank you for your thoughts. A larger version included as well.

Perhaps if the rainbow wasn't there I would be more inclined to crop or something just to concentrate on the falls. In the end, I really like the composition and the sharp angle of the giant fallen boulder helps tell the story of how Yosemite has been evolving over time. The falls are placed perfectly in the frame.
Nice work and I'm glad for you that you came home with some great images. Can't wait to see more.

Last time we were at Yosemite, we had two little ones in tow so I did not take a lot of shots. Our oldest son was 5 at the time(summer 1993, graduating college next week) and he was obsessed with waterfalls and loved the water blast beneath each. Probably did not see this one since we only saw everyone we could reach with 3 small kids in tow (our 2 and my sister's one with her and her husband). I need to get back here since at that time I did not have a lot of time for photoghraphy and reget not taking my medium format and 4X5 which are now long gone but I can only hope my 5DM2 will do as good job of capturing the magic of this place as you have.
Exposure and processing are great, unique take on Vernal, while the rock was a shield it is the anchor of your comp. Bringing out the bow against the background is well done, wouldn't have had it without the drenching though. All in all very well done.
