Have the chance to use a D-90, 300mm and 500mm lenses for a few days... and the weather is awful, the subjects that have been teasing me for two months in hiding. Just shot a few abstracts here, this little swirling pool off of a creek.

D-90, at ISO-500 (again, forgot to reset), 1/5th second, f-13 at 42mm w/ polarizer. Larger posted, thanks for any C&C.

Bill,

Gotta be honest here and say that this one isn't doing much more me. I think if you really wanted a swirl effect you would need a much longer shutter speed. How long of course depends on how fast the foam is moving. You didn't mention the use of a tripod, but with those long lenses and trying to get a long exposure for swirls, using a tripod would be a given.

I'm sure you had fun with those lenses and camera.

Hi Lon, yes it definitely required a longer shutter speed. While I did bring an 18-55mm lens in my pocket (which this is shot with), I just didn't carry the tripod down. Thus, the "fast" 1/5th braced by a fallen tree limb. That being said, I'm disappointed a bit, but not totally displeased.

And yes, I have about 3 or 4 days left w/ those fun things to play with--now I just hope mother nature helps out too.

Bill, I gotta agree with Lon here. I do think if ou used a tripod it could have been made more interesting. I might have zoomed in to eliminate the rocks and get just the swirls for abstracts (w/ tripod of course). Bad weather usually means clouds, which means diffused light, and that is a good thing for these types of images. Good luck!
