Sliding Rock Reflections

I struggled with the exposure on this shot ... the waterfall was in bright sunlight while the beautiful reflection in the pool was in the shade. I tried using HDR with two versions of the same shot but wasn't happy with it. I also question whether the bridge in the background is a negative. In the end, I only used RAW processing options for lighting and contrast and added the watermark in PS.

But, no matter what, this picture made me absolutely sure that I made the right choice in getting a Zeiss lens. :)

Canon 5D MkII
Zeiss 21mm/2.8 Distagon for Canon
1/80 sec @f/7.1
ISO 320
Handheld
No filters
RAW processing only (decreased exposure, added recovery and fill light)

Nice geens and reflections. The overall composition is a little confusing to me but I bet it looks very nice printed large.

Lovely warm and comforting scene, Michele. There's a lot going on, but not quite so much that I get lost.

Michele,

This is a lovely and inviting scene. I think you did very well with the exposure control considering what looks like a pretty wide dynamic range. Compositionally, I think there's a nice balance between the foreground pool and the background falls and greenery.

The presence of the bridge is not a big deal at all. Technically that should put this image in Man & Nature, but the bridge is pretty close to being insignificant IMHO - so I won't be moving this.

I see some great opportunities in the water and reflections. I hope you spent a far amount of time here - looks like a beautiful location.

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions. I did try other crops but it seemed that removing the upper tree branches left a big hole in the image because they are responsible for the beautiful green reflection in the pool. I'm looking forward to going back to Sliding Rock to see what I missed since this was my first time there and I was only there for a short while.
