Jeweled Shooting Stars

Here is a combination of Jeweled Shooting Stars (Dodecatheon amethystinum) entwined around a columbine that is in bud.

The shooting stars are a rare species that only grows on the limestone bluffs of the Upper Mississippi River Valley and similar habits in PA and WV. Like my last post, this is from the nature preserve in the Mississippi Palisades State Park in Savanna, IL.

Nikon D700; Nikkor 200mm; 1/6s at f/16 -0.33, ISO 400; Tripod

Comments and criticisms always welcome.

That's one beautiful wildflower. I generally like the composition and the shot works well. The background is a tad distracting but I don't know if you could have used a different aperture and still kept all the blooms in focus.

Beautiful flower and the color combination is great. I seem to be getting a bit of a halo around the flowers and leaves on my screen. Something in the processing?

David, Interesting to see the intertwining of the Shooting Stars with Columbine. Slight slant strengthens the composition. A delight to see

Beautiful subject and image David. I've never seen these and would love to. Ideally for my tastes the bg would be darker to better emphasize the subject but don't think you could have accomplished that here. It's a pretty color palette as well and I like the mood of the image very much.

David: What a great find and a superb capture. I kind of like the BG even if it is uneven. Gives a hint of the environment. 2 thumbs up! >=))>
