Yellow Warbler

I will post a killdeer chick w/catchlight photo next (which I got today) but wanted to post this Yellow Warbler from yesterday in honor of National Migratory Bird Day which is tomorrow. Yesterday was my first experience photographing these lovely birds, and I think I've caught the warbler bug... unfortunately the perches it chose were backlit, but I think I handled it the best you can (without using fill-flash).

Nikon D300s 300 f4 + 1.7X TC HH
f/7.1
1/1000s
ISO 800
+1 EC

Cropped to ~50% of FF, sharpened bird, noise reduction on BG

Nice Oriental feel with the flowering branches surrounding the warbler. I like the colors, comp and placement of the bird in the image. Nicely done.

Beautiful singing pose! I think the BG works very well here and the photo has a very artistic look.

It makes me happy.

You handled the BG great in my opinion I don't find it distracting. Also the blooms really decorate the frame and adds to the warbler. To me this isn't just another avian photo but a photo of the celebration of Spring. Sunshine, flowers and song, well done.

A good start with warblers. The backlight is the only real issue here, and you did well without fill flash that would have helped a bit.

I like the loose composition here. It is a good example of a bird-in-habitat. For photographers with shorter optics or who prefer being mobile this is a good style to cultivate.

Really a nice shot here Luke. Love the loose comp, the singing pose, and the habitat. The few brighter areas in the BG (leaves really) are the only very small nit I have. Overall, well done.

Really nice, Luke. The fill would have moved it up a notch, but the composition is very pleasing and that carries the day.
