Poofy Plant Paradise

A windy spot just before sunset atop Waimea Canyon, Kauai, looking east.

Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III, 16-35m1, f/22 @ 21 mm, 0.6s, ISO 50, GND .9soft. I used ISO 50 as I wanted to show the wind movement just right in those super green plants.

I'd be happy to discuss, thanks for looking.

Is Poofy the actual name? I think that's a great job with the wind movement, they look quite attractive. That's a really strong background too; lovely top half of the photo. My only nit is how bare so much of the foreground is. Was it possible to move to that cluster of plants in the middle right to fill it with more "poofy?"

i'd echo john's comment ... and would even be interested in seeing a frame full of poofy plants in the wind!

Ahhh, I don't think poofy is the name of the plant hahah..that would be pretty cool though. ;]

I do have some horizontals of the cluster on the right from earlier that evening, all lit up in fact, but I actually prefer this vertical as I'm quite fond of leading lines and the such. The little waterway/gully thing I was in made a nice curve into the forest below, as did the spacing between these lone plants...for me any way. The plants on the right were too chaotic, and lacked any coherent patterns. Personal opinion of course....there might have been something in there for eyes better trained than my own.

Thanks for the comments and critiques!

Great title! I love the windblown poofs, just wish there were a few more near by.

Neat thing about it, they look like miniature palm trees. Love the storm clouds and the light hitting the mountains. I imagine you don't get much sun in this part of the country.

I sure love Kauai and Waimea Canyon is fun place to be. I like some pieces of the image. I think the pieces I wish were a little different are a tad less sky and maybe not so much bare ground. Still nice as is, just my thoughts.

I agree with the others about the bare ground, but overall a very nice comp and some terrific light!
