Picos de Europa

Just back from a three-week exchange in Spain through my high school. Had a wonderful time, and of course took lots of shots. More urban shooting than landscape, but I did manage to shoot some frames during a trip to the Picos de Europa/Lagos de Covadonga area. My urban shots can be viewed at, Spain Images , for those who are interested.

There are some deeps shadows in parts of this image. Please let me know if they are too heavy or any other feedback. Thanks

Elliot, I love the selctive focus in this image. It is a daring move that is not seen too often on this forum (for some reason we seem to think that "sharp focus from near to far" is a heaven-sent commandment). I think it works well here, providing a colorful counterpoint to the dark and stormy background. The shadows are fine. Shadows can be used creatively to help focus attention on the important parts of the image, and I think they work well here in this regard. :toast:

It's rare to see a selective focus work well in landscape photography, but it works wonderfully here.
While the shadows are quite heavy, it suits the scene fairly well. A few spots could maybe use a touch of dodging, but I wouldn't recommend any drastic changes.

Great photo.

Pretty unique POV. Really gives a sense of depth and . . . being a snake.

I like the how the foreground is out of focus. The colors and textures are amazing.

Great job.

Well, the above folks are far more qualified than me to offer an expert opinion, but i have to be honest here--it doesnt work for me. I don't see the point of the OOF flowers--they just look like blobs to me and i can't relate. But, be true to your own personal vision, that's all that matters.

Thanks for the comment, Stan. It's good to hear both yes's and no's and the reasons why. This photo was definitely of an experimental nature, and I was interested to hear what people's thoughts would be. But as you said, in the end it's all about following one's own personal vision, which I try to do.
