After the Fire

On my way home from Invermere, BC a couple of weeks ago I couldn't help stop and take a moment to look at the incredible loss after the forest fire of a couple of years ago. Thousands of acres of forest gone just like that.

Thanks again for taking the time to stop in and take a look.

As always your thoughts and comments are welcome and appreciated.

Interesting image Mark. It certainly tells the sorry story well, and the mix of the background trees and the twigs of the foreground ones gives it a kind of abstract quality. Slightly finer web sharpening (or less compression?) might be nice.

Thanks for the feedback Floris. I'm still fairly new at sharpening and photoshop in general and hopefully my editing skills will improve with each post.

Very graphical image. I like this a lot. The lines in the background are what make this interesting.

The fine texture of the trees in the background is amazing.

I definitely like the abstract nature of this, and the fact you left this in color. Excellent IMO.

The hint of background diagonals vs all the verticals makes this work nicely.

I like this a lot too. Lots of detail in the background that contrasts well with the gray trees in front. Very striking image, Mark. A little sharpening would go a long way in improving the web version.

Abstract and real at the same time, Mark. The comp is quite effective and portrays the devastation of a fire in a compelling manner.

I really like this Mark, well done. The web version looks a little off sharpening wise but that is it. I bet the full res version is very nice.

The larger version looks really good. The front sharp trees kind of get a little lost in the background in the smaller version. I like the effect a lot. I imagine this looks very good full size!

Thanks Chris I made a few attempts to sharpen the smaller image but for some reason it wouldn't sharpen as well as the larger image. Its a steep learning curve for an old dog such as myself i guess
