What a wonderful sunrise to view in person! I have lots of images of this area from that morning but decided to try this vertical comp to see what you think.

D700, 70-200 @ 140 mm, circ.pol, tripod; f 22, 1/3, ISO 320, -1.0 EV.

Thanks for looking and for your comments.

Wow - that is such a cool landscape! Where is this 'Teepees', if you dont mind me asking? (Seems like it could use more web sharpening...)

I really like the soft pastel colors here and the layers created by the sky/canyon/teepees. The largest teepee seems a bit cut off by the right edge of the frame. I agree with Daniel that the large version seems a bit soft.

Thanks to you both. I couldn't decide on the sharpening because I didn't want to overdue it. I appreciate the feedback.
Daniel, this was taken in the Page/Lake Powell area of AZ.
I'll put up a horizontal view as well in a later post. The verticals all had the difficulty of chopping something off... A bit of a compositional nightmare. I should've have tried a series of shots for a pano, huh.

Wonderful shot, Catherine. I like the vertical comp - it works well with the shapes of the cones and the layers. The coloring is excellent as well.

Really like the composition Catherine. The vertical works well in tying the layers of the 'teepee's' to those of the background, especially those canyon walls. Great color too. Outstanding image.

I think it is very good! I like how you designed the composition. Trees at the bottom, "teepees" and the canyon wall in the bg. I think I would even prefer a crop that eliminates the sky. Because I think this would emphasize all shapes more. But as mentioned - it works very good as it is.

What do I think? I think I want to see more of this place. The light sure is nice and the soft, pastel presentation flattering to the subject.

This is really beautiful, Catherine. I love the vertical presentation, the color, and composition. I'm kinda on the fence with the sky though...I'm not sure how much the inclusion of the distant butte adds to the scene. Just a thought - splendid photograph either way. :toast:

What a unique landscape, and I love how its presented. The colors are very attractive. I could see this with the sky cropped out as well

The soft light really allows all of the beauty from this scene come through. Lovely pastel palette. I also like the layered comp.

I really like this--great subdued colors and hazy atmosphere, and nice depth. Just a real pretty landscape. :wavey:
