Oh Narnia!
by Cory O'Neill
This winter has not been as productive for me as I'd hoped. The snow patterns in the Cascades just never aligned with the weekends I had planned for traveling. One trip, however, did work out nicely. We skied in following the tail of a blustery cold dump that put down almost 20 inches of powder in two days. Although our 20 mile ski tour turned out to be only about 15, we enjoyed two days of virtually untouched powder, killer turns, and mystical evening lighting.
This image was captured moments after Bachelor broke free from a thick fog, just as the last warm tones of twilight were visible on the horizon, and magenta blue filled the shadows.
Thanks for your comments and suggestions!

42 commentsThat is some seriously surreal light on this scene. Great work.
...can I ask you Cory how did you manage to have the mountain so sharp ? Is it blended for DOF ? Thank you.
Just one question, have you tried to take the magenta off a liitle bit?
Best regards

3 vertical frames, each a single capture, no filters, 30 second exposure at iso 250 (I didn't want the clouds too smeary, and the light was going fast) captured from left to right. Stitched in PS, color corrected, TK masks for darks and saturation balance, resize and sharpen.
The multiple frame stitch gave me about a 20% increase in density over my capture with a single frame. Plus, it utilized the sharpest part of my 17-40 lens. I am still surprised at how much detail can be captured using this method, and this lens!
