We have a couple of pairs of these spending lots of time in our backyard. They generally hang out low and under the bushes, so when I get one up off the ground, I usually try to catch him!

50d, 500mm w/1.4, Iso 800, F5, 1/250 Late afternoon sun. Beanbag from the patio table. LARGER version also posted.

Sharon, The first photo I saw of yours is right after you purchase your 500mm. That one was great and you havn't stopped with the great pictures since then. This one here is another keeper. The bird speaks for itself, nice detail nice pose and nice lighting. I really like the perch in this photograph as well. It frames the bird nicely and the smooth clean BG complements it all. Well done.

Excellent capture Sharon, nice eye contact and feather details. I like how the bird seems to be looking into the frame. Nicely done. :toast:

I lke the colors throughout, and the bit on yellow on the head provides a nice accent. Good job, Sharon.

I don't get to see many of this common eastern species now that I live in AZ, but I always enjoyed them in NJ and still do when I see one here.

This is a bit on the bright side for my tastes, and I'd move the black slider 25-30 points in levels, or add an adjustment layer set to Multiply at around 25-30% intensity to strengthen the darker parts of the image. I think it would also help to carefully select the perch (vertical and horizontal parts) and darken them some more with another multiply layer at 25-30% strength.

super details with a nice pose and perch. I agree with Rich that it's a little bright.

Very nice, Sharon! The larger version really brings out the details. I am waiting for these to show up in our neck of the woods.

I think this is a superb image! I'd also like to see the effects of Richard's suggestion.

Nice little head turn Sharon and good detail in the larger image. I'd prefer it wasn't looking into the major branch but you can't determine where they'll land

cheers
