Good idea, this gallery for celebrating 10 years of NPN!

Here's a picture I took last summer at the Verdon river gorges.

The canyon of the Verdon river is nothing but a must-visit place for anyone living in EU and for anyone planning to visit France from abroad. It's 60 kms long and 700-800 meters deep, with huge vertical sandstone and limestone walls and fantastic spots at every corner.

I took this picture at dawn at the end of August, from atop the highest cliff of the canyon, at about 1300 meters of altitude.
I was very lucky indeed with the light and the low clouds that morning. It had been rainy the afternoon and the night before, so I was hoping for some nice combination of light and clouds, but honestly what I found when I reached the location at 6AM was far beyond my sweetest anticipation. I stayed up there in awe for about 1,5 hour, attending one of the best nature show my eyes had ever witnessed.

This is a stitch of 7 vertical takes.

I bet this truly was awseome in person because it's pretty awesome here! Absolutely gorgeous image with great detail. I love the way the clouds pour from the higher spot on the left and then left like a river into the distance.

I remember this Paolo. Spectacular image. The clouds are reminescent of an incoming tide. Gorgeous light and detail!

The word "breathtaking" is often overused. But at this moment I find that it is barely adequate to describe this composition. I totally agree with Bill's comment. This is like a river of clouds, flowing in from the left and over a "cloudfall" and then around the peak through the canyon to the right. Truly inspiring!

to catch the verdon canyon like that is like winning the lottery. unbelievable. I've never seen one from there coming even close to that.

It seems like two waterfalls of clouds.

Awesome grandeur!

Absolutely beautiful, Paolo! The larger version puts you right there and looks so real you have to catch your balance when you look down! An absolutely perfect exposure with very natural colors and intensity plus the details are exquisite! With 7 vertical images the resolution must be impressive. You could blow it up and make a mural to cover most of a wall. Superb landscape! :toast: :toast:
