This is a Virginia Bluebell in Manassas NBP. I noticed the sun lighting up some of the blooms, and thought I'd get a close up. But with how tiny the flowers are, I couldn't get close enough (no macro lens). This was my attempt to make something out of it, and I actually was pleasantly surprised looking at the image on the monitor; Sort of an environmental portrait I think. I left the bright sun and bit of lens flare in, but I'm not sold on that.

Thanks for looking!

Olympus E-520
Zuiko 12-60 @ 12mm
ISO 100
f/6.3
1/400
Handheld
PS CS4 for processing including some cropping to move the flowers off-center

David:
Very nice environmental perspective. You must be on you belly to take this HH from such a low angle. The lens flare is not problematic.

Very nice shot, color is great and fine detail. IMHO the tree trunk in the BG coming up from behind the flowers is a bit distracting. IF you could have shift over to avoid it the image would be better. Thanks for posting

This is indeed a nice environmental portrait (all the rage in the human portrait business, too). I think for a macro shot, the deep shadows may have been a problem, but this lighting really works well in this context. I like seeing the environment so much, now I am wondering what's outide of the frame on the bottom, but I suppose this would turn into a landscape shot if it was a lot wider.

I agree it is a nice environmental portrait, and I would just crop the partial bloom on the left. A happy kind of shot.

David: Beautiful little scene nicely captured. I would crop a little from the left to get rid of the partial bloom and then crop pretty aggressively from the top to eliminate all of the really bright BG area. I would keep some of the sky but the real bright area is a major negative for me. >=))>
