California Towhee

I met Charlie at the crack of dawn actually! We did find some more birds and this Towhee gave us the opportunity to get some better images of the species.

1D Mk4, 500 + 1.4X, ISO800, Manual fill at -1/16, tripod, early morning shade from mountain, full frame.

Thanks for looking; C & C please.

Seems to me that the desert shade works quite well now that you can operate at iso 800. I think that as things are heating up we should be like the birds and lurk in the shadows. The detail is quite good. Well done, Kwan. I have one very similar to this. :toast:

Lovely natural setting and comp here Kwan, to my eye the face looks slightly oversharpened. :toast:

A great comp KC. I like the perch branch as it adds some nice character an the BG is great showing habitat without being at all distracting. The bird is exposed nicely. I can't judge whether the bird is a bit oversharpened from this size image, but if it is, that is an easy fix. Very nice overall.

Nate, I have not specifically sharpened the face in this image - it's not something I normally do anyway. Perhaps what you are seeing is the Mk IV performing brilliantly!

Beautiful setting Kwan, I like how the greenery behind the Towhee adds a feeling of depth. I enjoy the slightly open bill, the colors, pose and the lovely head angle.
