An ambush

This is one of the funniest encounters from my trip to California last year. I know that it's not good to feed wild animals but I promise you that this was unintentional(at least from my side) . This ground squirrel was following me on a trail at Lobos Point for a little while and I found it quite intriguing cause I didnt really know why he was doing that. As soon as I sat down to have a snack, this professional pickpocket jumped straight on my knees and head forward into my pocket where he found a chunk of chocolate . It took me a few seconds to figure out what has just happened. Meanwhile he was already finishing his prize right next to me. He didnt mind my camera a few centimeters away from his muzzle and I managed to take a few shots before he started jumping on me again.

You cannot help but laugh. These critters are very creative. Anyway, a little chocolate is good for your health.

What a great image. I've been robbed by these little guys before, but I never got a great image for my trouble. Well done.

Thanks for all these nice comments. Mark, not only I've spent SOME time in Lithuania but I've spent most of my life in Lithuania. Just for the last 4-5 years I've been studying in France and more recently coming to US to do some research and study projects. It's a pity that I dont have that many good pictures from LT but I'll find something to post from the last summer.
